What you can do

(by Georg Greve, FSFE)

  1. Refuse DRM'ed devices and media
The main motive for DRM promotion is financial. Don't buy those devices and media and you'll remove everyone's motivation to go down this road any further. And while your individual decision may seem small, boycots are more effective than some people think, especially when you tell the merchants why you don't buy their merchandise.

Help spread the word about DRM
Many people have never heard of DRM, which is a problem. As a Disney Executive said in an interview: "If consumers even know there's a DRM, what it is, and how it works, we've already failed". So link to this site, talk to friends, join discussions in online fora -- help us spread the word!
  3. Join the Fellowship
The Fellowship of FSFE is a community of likeminded people from different areas who value their freedom in a digital society. With their contribution, the Fellows are an important source of support for FSFE's ongoing work, such as this platform. So sign up now and team up with others who also care about their freedom.
  4. Organise public protest
Even though they usually do not know about this, DRM affects real people in the real world. So go to them and wake them up. Public meetings and protests have been effective ways of doing this in the past, and they still work. Not only will people who see you wonder what is going on, a protest also gives the press something to report. So get together with some friends, maybe seek support from other Fellows, and go public.
