In relation to the ongoing revision of Swiss copyright law, which is also discussing anti-circumvention provisions for Digital Restrictions Management (DRM), Swiss artists jointly started the initiative Kunstfreiheit.ch (Kunstfreiheit = "Artistic Freedom" / "Freedom of arts") today.

In an open letter to the Swiss minister of justice and the commission working the upcoming copyright law revision, they formulate four essential points. Loosely translated, these are:

• A sane balance between rights-holders, artists and audience is essential
• Free access to cultural works is important for the development of culture
• Technical Protection Measures (TPM) undermine the freedom of arts
• The potential controls planned in the revision of the law must not limit the free evolution of arts

The letter is signed by 40 prominent members of the Swiss art scene and others can sign on by email, as well.
