Insight Research: Maintenance cost of DRM to reach $9bn by 2012

This article in IT Week quotes a report of Insight Research which estimates that spending on DRM systems is going to reach $9bn by 2012. This gives us a good idea of the systematic cost of Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) systems, a cost that will have to be borne by authors and artists with every upload into the system, as well as society at large with every access to works within that system.

Last Monday (October 9) 8.00 FSFE started their second day protesting against Digital Restrictions Management. This time the protest was done outside Swedish Exhibition Centre in Gothenburg and the entrance to the Aippi Congress 2006 in Gothenburg.

Yesterday's protest in Zürich found a remarkable echo: Switzerlands main tabloid newspaper, the Blick, published an article "Alles unter Kontrolle?" ("Everything under control?") with some pictures from DRM.info and a comparatively good description of the issues in simple terms.
